  2. DESIGNER'S  CLUB  USER'S  GUIDE

  4. All documentation assumes you have a basic understanding of how to use your 
  5. computer and the programs you have purchased for it.

  8. BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  9. -------------------
  10. Designer's Club images require application(s) that are compatible with the EPS 
  11. file format. EPS images are saved as Adobe Illustrator 3.0 files. Any other 
  12. hardware requirements will be based primarily on the applications you use and 
  13. the type of final output you plan to produce. For best results, your printer 
  14. should be PostScript compatible.

  17. ART SELECTION
  18. --------------
  19. **EXTENSIS PORTFOLIO BROWSER**
  20. Included on the CD is a copy of the Extensis Portfolio Browser. 
  21. The Extensis Portfolio Browser can be run off the CD, no installation is required. 
  22. Simply open the "Extensis Portfolio Browser" folder and then open the "Extensis Portfolio 
  23. Browser" folder and double-click the "Portfolio Browser.exe" file. Select the Browser folder 
  24. and choose the the electronic catalog you want to open. In the Extensis Portfolio Browser 
  25. folder is a file called "Portfolio 3.0 Browser QSG.pdf" this file contains instructions on how 
  26. to use the Portfolio Browser. The Adobe« Acrobat Reader must be installed on your computer
  27. first in order to view any Acrobat (PDF) files. See instructions below.

  29. Extensis Portfolio Browser application: This application allows you to "browse" 
  30. a catalog of images. You can view thumbnail versions of the images in the 
  31. catalog, search for images by keywords, preview images, and copy them to your 
  32. hard drive.

  34. DC 1998 Browser catalog: This catalog contains all the images from January 
  35. to December.
  36.  
  37. DC 1998 Web Browser catalog: This catalog contains all the web images from 
  38. January to December.

  40. Search Tips
  41. ------------
  42. Galleries
  43. To make your searches easier, we have included preset galleries. 
  44. These galleries will allow you to search within a particular 
  45. month or year.
  46.  
  47. To access the galleries, go to Catalog and pull down to List 
  48. Galleries. Then click on a gallery and choose Open.

  51. Searching the Gallery
  52. Once you have selected a gallery, you may want to do a Keyword 
  53. search for a particular subject. For example, if you have all of 
  54. the Designer's Club CDs for 1998 and you want to search for an 
  55. image of a dog on these CDs, follow these steps:
  56.  
  57. Go to Catalog and choose Find
  58. Type "dog" as the keyword
  59. Click on the "Find in gallery" check box (this will only search in 
  60. the current gallery you have selected)
  61. Click on the "Display results in new gallery" check box (this will 
  62. create a new window with your search results)

  65. Adobe« Acrobat Reader Installation Instructions
  66. -----------------------------------------------
  67. The Adobe« Acrobat Reader must be installed on your computer first in order to 
  68. view any Acrobat (PDF) files.
  69.  
  70. The installation program for "Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.01" can be found in the Adobe Acrobat
  71. folder located in the "Extensis Portfolio Browser" folder. Windows 3.1 users should use the
  72. 16-bit installer (ar16e301.exe) and Windows 95 users should use the 32-bit installation 
  73. program (ar32e301.exe). Double-click the file to run the installer.

  79. A WARNING TO COLOR USERS
  80. -------------------------
  81. The nature of color in desktop publishing is unpredictable. The way a color 
  82. image looks on screen does not necessarily reflect the way it will look when it 
  83. is printed, and different output devices and types of paper may produce 
  84. different results. We recommend that you contact your service bureau and printer 
  85. so that they can insure the kind of color reproduction you need.

  88. USING THE CLIP ART
  89. ------------------
  90. ** PAGE LAYOUT PROGRAMS **
  91. Open your page layout program, create a new document and place the EPS file as 
  92. you would any other images. The following page layout programs are compatible 
  93. with the EPS file format:
  94.     PageMaker
  95.     QuarkXpress        
  96.         
  97. ** DRAW PROGRAMS **
  98. Open your draw program and OPEN the EPS file. These images can be manipulated 
  99. like any other EPS image. The following draw programs are compatible with the 
  100. EPS file format:
  101.     Adobe Illustrator
  102.     FreeHand
  103.     Corel Draw
  104. Many of your Designer's Club EPS images are provided as layered illustrations. 
  105. This means that several elements can be lifted out of a single image and used as 
  106. stand-alone artwork. In order to pull apart or separate the layers of an EPS 
  107. file, a PostScript draw program like Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia FreeHand is 
  108. necessary.

  110. If your application was not listed above, please refer to your manual for 
  111. compatibility.
